The Movie:

Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer have dived yet again into their secret book to pull out a map that leads to treasures of vast fortune. No, not a legendary city of gold, but the riches that come from storming the box office. National Treasure: Book of Secrets is everything a big budget adventure sequel should be. A bigger story and better action help make Book of Secrets a surprising end of the year crowd pleaser.

Setting out to clear his ancestor’s name, Ben Gates is back in treasure-hunting action to unequivocally prove that his family had nothing to do with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. With his usual cohorts Riley, Abigail and his father, Patrick Gates, the trio must race against the clock to stop a new enemy, Mitch Wilkinson, from uncovering an ancient treasure before they can, or forever risk the Gates name being associated with the death of one of America’s greatest presidents.

Special Features:

Back and more explosive than ever, the National Treasure gang comes home in a fantastic 2-Disc DVD set sure to give families something to do at the start of summer vacation. Chalk full of goodies, the sequel not only delivers a film that is just as, if not more fun, than the original, but a wealth of special features that is likely to keep National Treasure in the DVD player for quite some time.

What the first National Treasure lacked in features, Book of Secrets more than makes up for. Unlike it’s predecessor, which was overflowing with deleted scenes, National Treasure 2 has an incredible amount of behind the scenes content. While U.S. history buffs will likely get a kick of out features like “Knights of the Golden Circle” and “Inside the Library of Congress”, film fans should not miss “The Book of Secrets: On Location”, a fantastic making of documentary that chronicles the crew shooting everywhere from London to South Dakota.

BluRay Exclusive:

Aside from some addition special features, mostly deleted scenes, National Treasure 2 on BluRay is nearly identical to its DVD counterpart. Where the film really gets a boost though is in the enhanced visuals and audio which are near flawless. If you intend on digging for treasure, BluRay is the way to unearth it.

8/10

Overall:

An uproariously entertaining crowd pleaser comes home on an incredibly worthwhile 2-Disc DVD. While the film might be mind numbing Hollywood entertainment, it’s quite good mind numbing Hollywood entertainment. A must have for fans of the National Treasure series.
