The
Massie Twins (MoviePulse.net): Can you tell us a little about your
dancing background and how it helped for this film?
Roselyn Sanchez: I took ballet from age 4-19.
When I was a teen I realized I wasn't going to make any money
dancing in Puerto Rico. I started doing jazz, and then I did a
TV show for three years, moved to New York and didn't take one
dance class, because I'm thinking I want to sing and act. When
I moved to Los Angeles I booked Fame LA as a dancer, started dancing
all over again, and after that didn't dance until Yellow [2006].
Then I didn't take a dance class for two years and then got The
Game Plan. So it's been really interesting.
MP: What drew you to this project?
RS: It was a Walt Disney script, with Andy Fickman
and The Rock. When I read it I said “I want to do a comedy
so badly,” because of doing three years of “Without
a Trace”, playing an FBI detective every week. “Trace”
was so serious, I wanted to do something lighter that I can go
to work and have a laugh – so I was really excited. To be
in a movie that's PG was great because the last three movies I’ve
been in my nephews couldn’t go see.
MP: What is your take on your character as a Latina personage?
RS: It wasn't a conscious decision. I wanted
to do The Game Plan because it portrays a classy and talented
Latina. I've been blessed because every single role I've done
has been an educated person. I've never done the stereotypical
Latina, even though I have an accent - I've always been able to
play educated people. That's a good thing!
MP: Did anything shocking, unexpected or unscripted happen
on set?
RS: Because we're dealing with Boston Ballet
talent, even the little girls act like it's military school. They're
very disciplined and wouldn't talk. Once they got comfortable
with me they acted more like kids. They would raise their hands
for things and I was the teacher, so I had to play the part. They
would call me “Ms. Sanchez”, and I would say, “Call
me Ros” and they would say “Ms. Sanchez.”

MP: What was it like working with The Rock?
RS: Awesome. He was so sweet and charismatic.
We have an equivalent of Dwayne in the Latin margin - he smiles
and wins you over.
MP: What are your current and future projects?
RS: I'm working on the third season of “Without
a Trace” - no movies right now. I'm looking for the next
script that excites me. When you do a TV show, you're not available
until your hiatus. For me, that's May of next year. I booked this
on my last hiatus last summer, and the day before we started shooting
Dwayne injured his Achilles tendon, so for three months the whole
thing was canceled. When they called me and said they're going
back into production, I was doing “Without a Trace”
so they said “you're not available.” I cried “Please
let me do it!” And they were so kind - for two months I
was flying back and forth doing both projects.
MP: Do you enjoy working in TV or film?
RS: Movies. TV is a bigger commitment. I love
the check every week, but the movies are a different world.
MP: What's the best thing that's ever happened to you?
RS: Oh my God. There's so many - I've been so
blessed. Probably being able to spend eight years of my life with
Mota, my little dog. My mom getting cancer and recovering was
incredible to. My dog. Sorry. How sad is that? When I'm a mom,
I’ll tell you “my child”, but I’m not
a mom.

MP: Would you consider acting in other genres, such as
horror?
RS: Sure, because they always open #1. I don't
understand it, but every horror film is huge. I would consider
one but I don't know if my heart would be in it. I love drama.
I know that romantic comedy is where the money is, and that with
the way America is nowadays, people need to go to a movie theater
for two hours and not worry about anything and have a good time.
MP: What advice do you have for aspiring young actors
and actresses?
RS: Don't look up to all the young figures that
are part of the business but not representing performing in a
good way. And always listen to your mom and dad. If you want to
get in the business, it doesn't matter what age, it’s based
on rejection. So for the most part, you're going to get a lot
of “No’s”. You have to develop very thick skin.
You have to move on.
MP: Were you a fan of The Rock as a wrestler, or were
you familiar with his movies?
RS: Yes I was. I think every girl in America
is.
MP: Tell us something about The Rock we didn't know.
RS: He loves singing. In the makeup trailer
there’s always music, or he's always singing Elvis Presley.
